Scholars and clergy establish the Higher Institute of Coptic Studies in Cairo, systematizing the teaching of Coptic language, hymnology, art and history and training generations of Sunday-school teachers. Its music division, established by Ragheb Moftah, began the systematic recording of the liturgical repertoire.
